Candle Care Guide: How to Make Candles Last Longer

A good candle can become part of a home ritual, but it needs basic care to burn well. Better candle habits help the wax last longer and keep the scent experience cleaner.

Trim the wick

Before each use, trim the wick to about one quarter inch. This helps reduce smoke and keeps the flame controlled.

Let the first burn reach the edges

On the first use, let the wax melt close to the edge of the vessel. This helps prevent tunneling later.

Keep the vessel clean

Keep loose wick trimmings out of the wax and let the candle cool before moving or covering it.

Use candles with care

Place candles on a stable surface, away from fabric, pets, and children. Follow the care label for burn time and disposal.

Candle checklist

  • Trim the wick.
  • Let the wax pool evenly on first use.
  • Keep the wax clean.
  • Follow the label.
  • Let the vessel cool before handling.
